Meaning in context

Abstract : 

This dissertation contains a series of investigations into three ways in which "context" can be understood as a factor interacting with the linguistic system in order to enable, facilitate, and otherwise enrich communication. These are, context as the set of background assumptions, context as the situation of utterance, and context as paralinguistic gesticulations.
