"Young children’s understanding of the mind: the role of conversation in developing cognition"

Abstract:

Children begin to learn early on about their own and others’ inner worlds and mental states. Development of this crucial social competence is fostered by language: discourse, conversation and the use of mental-state talk can in fact enhance and sharpen children’s social cognition. We review a body of research on this theme that has been conducted by GRiSC, the Milan-based Research Group in Social Cognition, focusing on the method adopted, as well as on the key outcomes obtained and their practical implications.
