Metaphor, Metaphorology, Metaphilosophy
EHESS
PHYLOSOPHIE DU LANGAGE ET DE L’ESPRIT
My PhD thesis deals with the structure and interpretation of metaphor : What are metaphors ? How do we understand metaphors ? What makes metaphors apt ? I am also interested in the methodological significance of metaphor for philosophy. My supervisor is François Recanati.
During the academic year 2016/17 I am a fellow of the Swiss Institute in Rome. Previously, I studied Philosophy and Linguistics at the Universities of Bern, Vienna, Zurich, Lucerne, and Warwick.
One of my favourite metaphors is “Time is a pond in which the past bubbles to the surface” (Christoph Ransmayr, “The Terrors of Ice and Darkness”).
