Team "Metaphysics and Ontology"

Frederic Tremblay completed his PhD at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2014 under the supervision of Barry Smith. He is the recipient of a Fernand Braudel-IFER fellowship granted by the Foundation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme, and he is currently doing a postdoc at the Institut Jean Nicod within the research team “Métaphysique et ontologie” under the supervision of Frederic Nef.

Tremblay works in parallel in contemporary metaphysics and the history of metaphysics. In contemporary metaphysics, he is currently working on a theory of universals that he calls “resemblance realism,” which is a via media between Aristotelian realism and resemblance nominalism. In the history of metaphysics, he is presently working on the ontology of the German philosopher Nicolai Hartmann as well as on that of Hartmann’s professor in St. Petersburg — the Russian philosopher Nikolai Lossky.
