Phd Program

Institut Jean Nicod does not have any PhD program of its own and does not offer PhD funding.

On the other hand, Institut Jean Nicod hosts some of the PhD students supervised by its members for EHESS (philosophy and cognitive sciences programs), ENS, or other universities (depending on specific agreements).

The members of IJN also take part in the doctoral program Frontiers in Cognition of the Institut d’Etude de la Cognition (IEC).

Both the philosophy program at EHESS and the Frontiers in Cognition PhD program can provide funding for students working with a member of IJN. Candidates are invited to contact potential supervisors and search the following websites:

- IEC : Doctoral Program Frontiers in Cognition

- Contrats doctoraux de l’EHESS

- EHESS : Doctoral Program : Philosophie et Sciences Sociales

Practical information for IJN PhD students

Student representatives:

Romain BourdoncleGéraldine CarrananteSlawa LoevSoria Ruiz

Student representatives ensure the well-being of students and the good functioning of graduate studies at the lab. They also represent students at the lab meetings (Cod’o) to support their requests for (i) financial assistance to participate at conferences, (ii) IJN library book requests (iii) material acquisitions.

Financing committee: Uriah Kriegel and Alda Mari

The financing committee coordinates the information about financing of research stays at universities abroad and evaluates financing requests of students who wish to visit another lab or University department (in agreement with the student’s supervisor).

Placement officer: Frédérique de Vignemont

The placement officer is in charge of helping last year PhD students to find a job (preparing application files, training for job interviews, getting acquainted with the job market etc.)

Mediation committee: Contact

Members (in alphabetical order): Frédérique de Vignemont, faculty member, Nathalie Evin, ITA, Carlo Geraci, faculty member, Anna Giustina, student representative, Mora Maldonado, student representative.

The mediation committee is composed of the representatives of the three personnel categories (researchers, students, ITA). It takes care of the resolution of conflicts within the laboratory: issues concerning supervision, discrimination, relationship among the members, etc.

People facing such difficulties may contact the mediation committee or one of its members, which may assign, on a case-by-case basis, a member of the IJN or a third party to help them find a solution, in full confidentiality. The members of the committee will then inform the direction of the lab that a case is being dealt with, while preserving the anonymity of all subjects involved.
